As graduation draws near, highschoolers are faced with what can be a tough decision: what’s next? Furthermore, young Christians in this season of life often find that it can be challenging to stay firm in their faith and resist any temptations or struggles that threaten to lead them astray as they enter a new phase of life. I chose to go an a gap year with World Race because I believe it will help me establish a solid foundation in my faith and experience God’s work in a more direct and personal way. It will be a privilege to serve alongside fellow Christians around my age who experienced a similar calling as I did. By going on this gap year I hope to give myself a fresh start to the beginning of the next chapter of my life by taking this 9 months for spiritual and mental development and to enjoy the company of new friends who are passionate about the Gospel. In addition to the spiritual and relational aspects of this trip, I’m also really looking forward to seeing the world and being immersed in other cultures! Everyone I have heard talk about their gap year experience has said that it changed them both spiritually and personally, and that the benefits far outweighed any of the personal sacrifices and inconveniences that it posed. I can’t wait to see what God will do through everyone on this journey, both the gap year participants and supporters!

  1. Congratulations on your decision to follow the Lord around the world with a special group of humans for nine months, while being led by the capable crew at AIM.

My son did the WR Gap Year in 2018-19, traveling to Cambodia, Ethiopia, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, and his experience certainly impacted his faith and closeness with God the most, and in ways that would not been possible had he pursued other opportunities here in the states.

I encourage you to push fully into you experience. Begin your fundraising as soon as you can (you don’t want to leave any part of that until after launch), and trust the Lord in the process.

Best wishes to you in your journey. I’ve subscribed to your blog and look forward to hearing about your adventure in the months to come.

  2. Micah,
